1. Who we are
JobSpark is a Chrome browser extension that assists Australian job seekers by generating AI-powered cover letters, calculating job match scores, and tracking job applications on Seek, Indeed, LinkedIn, and Jora. This privacy policy explains how the extension handles your data.
We do not operate any backend servers, user accounts, or databases. There is no "JobSpark platform" — the extension runs entirely within your browser.
2. Data stored on your device
JobSpark stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API. This data is never transmitted to any JobSpark server.
- Profile information — your name, email address, phone number, location, job title, years of experience, skills, resume summary, LinkedIn URL, desired salary, work type preferences, and cover letter tone. This is used to personalise AI-generated cover letters and match scores.
- Resume text — if you upload a PDF resume, the text extracted from it is stored locally so it can be included in AI prompts. Your original PDF file is never stored; only the plain text is kept.
- Saved job applications — job title, company, URL, job board, application status, match score, generated cover letters (last 3 per job), interview prep notes, status history with timestamps, and follow-up reminder flags.
- Anthropic API key — stored in Chrome's sync storage and used solely to authenticate AI requests directly from your browser to Anthropic's API. See Section 4 for details.
- Settings and onboarding state — which profile is active, light/dark mode preference, and whether you've completed the welcome walkthrough.
3. Data we do NOT collect
JobSpark does not collect, transmit, or have access to any of the following:
- Your browsing history or activity on any website
- The content of any web pages you visit (other than job listings, which are read locally to build AI prompts)
- Your profile data, resume text, or application history
- Your Anthropic API key (it goes directly from your browser to Anthropic — we never see it)
- Personally identifiable information of any kind
- Usage statistics, session data, or error reports
- Device identifiers, IP addresses, or location data
4. How your Anthropic API key is used
JobSpark uses the Anthropic API (Claude AI) to generate cover letters, calculate match scores, and prepare interview questions. To use these features, you provide your own Anthropic API key in the extension settings.
When you trigger an AI feature, the extension's background service worker sends a request directly from your browser to api.anthropic.com. Your API key is included as an authentication header in that request. No JobSpark server is involved — the request goes straight from your browser to Anthropic and back.
The request to Anthropic includes relevant context such as your resume summary, skills, and the job description text scraped from the page. Anthropic's own privacy policy governs how they handle the content of API requests. You can review it at anthropic.com/privacy.
Your API key is stored in Chrome's sync storage, which Chrome encrypts and may replicate across your signed-in devices via Google's infrastructure. JobSpark never reads, logs, or transmits your API key to any server we operate.
5. Chrome storage areas used
JobSpark uses two Chrome storage areas:
- chrome.storage.sync — stores your profiles and API key. Chrome encrypts this data and may sync it across your signed-in Chrome instances. Subject to Chrome's own storage limits and Google's privacy policy.
- chrome.storage.local — stores your saved applications and resume text. This data remains on your current device only and is not synced.
You can permanently delete all data stored by JobSpark at any time from the Danger Zone section of the Settings page (click the extension icon → Settings & Profiles → scroll to Danger Zone).
6. Permissions used by the extension
The Chrome Web Store requires us to disclose why each permission is needed:
- storage — to save your profile, API key, and application history locally in Chrome.
- activeTab / scripting — to inject the JobSpark side panel into job board pages so it can read job listing content and display the panel UI.
- alarms — to schedule follow-up reminder notifications 7 days after you save an application.
- notifications — to display the follow-up reminder as a Chrome notification.
- Host permissions for Seek, Indeed, LinkedIn, Jora — to read job listing content (title, company, job description) from these pages so it can be included in AI prompts. JobSpark does not modify these pages beyond injecting its own panel.
- Host permission for
api.anthropic.com— to allow the extension's service worker to make direct API calls to Anthropic from your browser.
7. Third-party services
JobSpark interacts with one external service:
- Anthropic API (
api.anthropic.com) — used for AI features. Requests are made directly from your browser using your own API key. Governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
No analytics platforms, advertising networks, or other third-party services are used.
8. This website (jobspark.com.au)
This website does not set any cookies, run any analytics scripts, or collect any personal information. It is a static HTML page served to provide information about the extension and link to this privacy policy.
9. Children's privacy
JobSpark is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the extension, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.
10. Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes in a material way, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after a policy change constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. We recommend checking this page periodically.
11. Contact
For any privacy-related questions, data deletion requests, or concerns about how JobSpark handles your information, please get in touch:
Email: hello@jobspark.com.au
Because all data is stored locally on your device, the most effective way to delete your data is to use the "Reset Everything" option in the JobSpark settings page, or to uninstall the extension from Chrome.
